| Genus Diastyloides Sars, 1900, is characterized by a mandible which is truncated at its base (type Leuconidae) that it is the only one to possess in the Diastylidae family. Known to this day by 5 species, its distribution area seems to be limited to the northern Atlantic Ocean, from Norway to the Mediterranean Sea. The study of the material collected during more recent cruises enabled us to extend this distribution area and lead to the description of two new species. |

| The genus Makrokylindrus Stebbing, 1912, is characteristic of deep waters, since, out of the 32 species know to this day, only two, M. serricaudata (Scott, 1912) and M. fistularis (Calman, 1911), have been collected at depths of less than 200 m. The study of collections from previous cruises in the North Atlantic Ocean enabled us to identify some of the 11 species already known in this area and to complete the inventory of this genus by describing 7 new species. | In a first note (Reyss, 1975) we had the opportunity of describing a new species of Lampropidae, Pseudodiastylis delamarei, collected in 1967 during a cruise by the research vessel "Atlantis II" of the Woods-Hole Oceanographic Institution (W.H.O.I.) on a Dakar-Recife radial. The material collected during this cruise contains several other Lampropidae, some of which are new to science. This note aims to study the genera: Platysympus, Lamprops, Paralamprops, Platytyphlops, Pseudodiastylis, Dasylamprops n. g. and Murilamprops n. g. from the cruise n° 31 of the "Atlantis II", as well as specimens collected by the R.S. | 21 species of Cumacea have been collected during 10 dredgings in the Ionian Sea and the northern Aegean Sea. Two new species are described : Makrokylindrus aegaeus and Diastylis charcoti. | Cumacean Crustacea are an important faunal component of the deep-sea benthos of the Mediterranean. Thirty-three species have been collected from bathyal and abyssal depths and eight of these were new. Faunal composition is closely related to the North Atlantic cumacean fauna, especially to that of the Bay of Biscay. Mediterranean endemism is found for species occurring at depths of more than 2000 m. Trophic conditions and species diversity in the deep Mediterranean (2000-3000 m) are similar to those occurring in the North Atlantic between 4000 and 5000 m depth. [NOT CONTROLLED OCR] |

| During the Polymede II cruise conducted by the R.S. "Jean-Charcot" and organized by the Scientifc department of the C.O.B., two sectors of the Ionian Sea have been the focus of a biological study of the benthic populations: the abyssal plain of Messine (abyssal being used here in its topographic meaning, that is to say a central basin away from the coast), and the Matapan South trench, to the south-west of the Peloponnesus. Samples were taken using an epibenthic drag with an automatic closing system enabling the catch of pelagic animals during the haulback and the loss of benthic samples. |

| During the past ten years, the use of pingers has profoundly modified methods of work on the deep-sea bottom. At first used to localize, in relation to the bottom, instruments dropped vertically from a ship (EDGERTON and COUSTEAU, 1959, EDGERTON, COUSTEAU, HERSEY and BACKUS, 1960, for deep-sea cameras ; NALWALK, HERSEY, REITZL and EDGERTON, 1962, for rocky dredges) pingers have also been used with success to survey the descent of otter trawls (BACKUS 1966) or beam trawls (ROWE and NIENZIES, 1967).
